After Ukraine, the Kremlin’s next targets could be Moldova and the Baltic countries, Belgian army commander Michel Hofmann warned.
"Russia has already demonstrated that it has a desire to attack its neighbor. The language of Russian President Vladimir Putin is always ambiguous. It is quite possible that later they will have other ideas. Either in the south of Moldova or in the Baltic countries," Hoffman said during visiting Belgian soldiers stationed in Romania, writes Politico.
"Europe must urgently prepare and make it clear that it can defend itself and that it will counter-attack if necessary," said Hofmann, who is chief of defense for the Belgian armed forces.
He added that Russia has switched to the military industry.
"Even if Moscow's forces currently appear weakened by the ongoing war against Ukraine, this weakness is 'temporary'. If Russia wins the war, it will eventually rebuild its war machine and rebuild its armed forces," the army chief warned.
