A series of explosions occurred near the United States Consulate in Erbil, ABC News writes, citing sources in the Iraqi security services.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was targeting "spy headquarters" and "anti-Iran terrorist gatherings in parts of the region" with ballistic missiles.

The strikes killed four people, none of them coalition or American troops. Coalition forces also shot down three unmanned aerial vehicles in the area of Erbil airport. Air traffic over the city was stopped.

An Iraqi security source told reporters that the bombing was very heavy, hitting eight facilities near the American consulate.
