Russia and Ukraine are exhausted by the ongoing war, which could create a potential window for negotiations later this year.

This opinion was expressed by former Supreme Commander of NATO Allied Forces Europe James Stavridis, writes The Hill. "Towards the end of this year, probably after the US elections, we will have a moment for potential negotiations," he said.

Even though both countries face challenges, they will still likely put any potential agreement on hold, Stavridis said.

At the same time, the military man expressed the opinion that the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation will end “like the Korean War, which means that the Russians will probably control some part of Ukraine, Crimea, and the land bridge to Russia.”

“On the other hand, Ukraine is joining NATO. I think that this year the contours of this agreement may become clearer,” the military man admitted.

The publication recalled that last month Stavridis called for increased aid to Ukraine. "This is a very dangerous situation, and the real action here is not actually in Kyiv. The real action is happening in Washington. We must provide military support to Ukraine. Their cause is just," Stavridis said then.
