A full-scale war continues in Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers have been preparing to repel full-scale Russian aggression for five months.
This was stated by the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Alexander Pavlyuk in an interview with Radio Liberty. “I was appointed to the Joint Forces back in July 2021. Having carried out an analysis, already in the fall there was a very high probability that there would be a full-scale war. It was still difficult to understand its scale, but the fact that it would at least capture the territory of Lugansk and Donetsk area - this was obvious. Because we analyzed the actions of the enemy, his corresponding preventive measures, his reconnaissance functions that they performed in the territory, along the entire line of contact, along the border," he said.
According to Pavlyuk, there were all signs that we would meet the enemy not only from the occupied part of Donbass, where the “LPR” groups, recognized as terrorist in Ukraine, operate, but also from Russian territory.
“Therefore, already in the fall, we began to carry out certain actions in order to successfully meet and inflict maximum defeat on him. Realizing that the balance of forces and means was and will not be in our favor, but we still had no options, we must "We were able to survive, because the whole of Ukraine was behind us. Therefore, for five months we were preparing to repel full-scale aggression. Already in January-February, we received telegrams from the Main Intelligence Directorate, which suggested that such an option was possible," the commander noted.
He emphasized that in February everything was done as much as possible to meet the enemy with dignity. “All positions were strengthened to the maximum, all possible options of action were calculated, all reserves were moved - we carried out full-scale training at least twice, and a lot of local training was carried out. This played a possibly decisive role. That on the first day, when all command centers, all control points, all places where there should have been concentrations of our troops and warehouses were struck, they went to an empty place,” Pavlyuk said.
