The pace of offensive operations of the Russian occupiers near Avdiivka slowed down sharply after the capture of the city. The Russian troops will have to take an operational pause or transfer reinforcements to this area from other sectors of the front.
The Institute for the Study of War reports this, citing a statement by Dmitry Likhovy, a representative of the Tauride group of troops. He said that over the past 24 hours the number of shellings in the Avdeevsky direction has decreased significantly. Aviation activity in the area has also decreased significantly. Russian troops are regrouping and clearing the city.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces retreated to a new line of defense, which they had prepared in advance and strengthened on “several levels.”
Analysts say the Russians will likely have to pause an operational pause or bring in additional reinforcements from other parts of the front to renew their assaults to prevent a climax near the city.
“Russian forces have reserves for such reinforcement in other sectors, but ISW has not seen any indication that Russian command is now moving these reserves towards Avdievka,” the report adds.
Likhovy and the speaker of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Ilya Yevlash, on the contrary, are convinced that the Russian command will transfer the forces concentrated around Avdievka to other, unspecified sections of the front line. According to Yevlash, the enemy will need at least a week to do this.
“ISW has not yet seen any indication of how Russian forces will decide to distribute their manpower, which is currently stationed near Avdievka,” analysts note.
