A massive Russian attack on Ukraine will increase fears that Kyiv will not win the war. Sky News security and defense editor Deborah Haynes writes about this.
The author notes that military insiders expected Russian ruler Vladimir Putin to launch some kind of new attack on Ukraine ahead of the NATO summit in Washington this week "to dominate the agenda."
"Monday's barrage of missile strikes is fueling fears among some lawmakers in allied countries that Kyiv cannot win and must be forced into some kind of peace deal, given that Russia shows no sign of backing down," the article said.
The expert notes that the devastating bombing that hit Ukraine's main children's hospital will also strengthen Ukraine's demands for more air defense weapons to protect its skies and provide more lethal weapons to fight Russia on its territory.
"In addition to the attack on Ukraine, there were also concerns that Moscow could try to launch a covert attack on a NATO member state ahead of the Washington summit - such as a cyber attack on critical infrastructure, to demonstrate its willingness to break global rules and norms, and to test NATO's responses." - writes the author.
