The Tragic Incident
The ill-fated aircraft or parts of it collided with a car carrying a family - parents and two children. The 5-year-old girl suffered fatal injuries, while her 9-year-old brother and parents sustained burns. The pilot managed to eject but also suffered burns. Disturbing video footage of the crash shows nine aircraft moving in two V-shaped formations. Suddenly, one of the planes descends below the others, crashes, and erupts into a fiery ball, presumably due to fuel ignition. The video also captures the pilot ejecting with a parachute shortly before the aircraft collides with the airfield's fence.
The Aftermath
The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from the Caselle Airport in Turin. As of now, the exact reasons for the crash remain undisclosed. Photographs of the aftermath depict aircraft debris scattered across a cornfield and a charred and wrecked car lying on the roadside.
About Frecce Tricolori
Frecce Tricolori is Italy's premier aerobatic pilot team, part of the Italian Air Force. They are known for their stunning aerial displays at national events, leaving trails of red, green, and white smoke - the colors of the Italian flag. They perform even more intricate aerobatics during airshows.
The team was preparing for a performance scheduled for Sunday, September 17th, as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Italian Air Force.
This tragic incident brings back memories of another aviation disaster. On August 12th, as Russia celebrated the Day of the Air Force, an Su-30 fighter jet crashed in the Kaliningrad region while attempting a high-altitude maneuver. The crash was captured on video, emphasizing the risks associated with aerobatic flying.
