The incident unfolded within the premises of the "Venczel Joszej" secondary school in the city of Miercurea Ciuc. The bear had ventured into the schoolyard, coming within 30 meters of the school building while hundreds of students were already inside. Authorities deemed it necessary to put down the bear, a grim decision made at 7:40 in the morning.
The Mayor's Perspective
"If we had employed a different procedure, everyone might have been in danger," stated Deputy Mayor Bors Bella. He further explained that they had considered alternative options, such as attempting to scare the bear away or tranquilizing it. However, these choices were ruled out due to the potential risk they posed to human safety.
Bors Bella emphasized that the bear exhibited aggressive behavior, attempting to climb down from a tree and escape.
