Director of the Security Sector Reform Agency, reserve major general of the SBU, ex-deputy head of the intelligence service in 2014-2015. Viktor Yagun listed the main reasons why the Kremlin will hide information about the true condition of the head of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation, Ramzan Kadyrov, until the last moment.
During the telethon, he noted that Ramzan Kadyrov’s worsening health problems could have been understood a few months ago by analyzing data from various sources. But Russia, like any totalitarian state, completely closes off information, “which in fact is not some kind of abnormal, mysterious, but with such incomprehensible actions, it leads everything in some places to absurdity.”
He believes that the Kremlin authorities will hide information about Kadyrov’s true condition until the last moment, because “the situation is very dangerous for Putin.”
“They themselves have created such a precedent when Kadyrov, by his own will, actually holds the region and his absence for a long time or disappearance can lead to an explosion. With Kadyrov, everything is much more complicated, religion intervenes here. According to Muslim tradition, one must bury one day after another, before sunset. Or before sunset, maybe a day and a half later, if it happened at night. The situation is very critical, they are either looking for a replacement, or some reason to convey this news to the people," Yagun emphasized.
The reserve major general of the SBU recalled that the power of the head of Chechnya rests on total terror. “This terror is actually associated with the hostages of those families, those people who are either opponents or are fighting against Kadyrov. In fact, the overwhelming majority of Chechnya, as they say, are “blooded”. Moreover, in several generations. Because their grandfather could have been destroyed there, both father and son. And there are already grandchildren who will still remember who Kadyrov is. Therefore, there really could be a fire there and no “Kadyrovites” will be able to calm it down,” Yagun emphasized.
The Kremlin also needs time to find an adequate candidate to replace Kadyrov, who will be able to take control of the structure of his military formation.
“This is the same situation as with “Wagner”, who will take it while they found Surovikin. Therefore, we need to find someone adequate who would take control of the “Kadyrovites”. And this for a minute is about 50 thousand bayonets that enter indirectly "to some of their structures, but are actually controlled from one center. So that everyone understands, the headquarters of the Kadyrovites is not in Grozny, but 5-7 minutes on foot from the Kremlin," Yagun explained.
The reserve major general of the SBU noted that if Chechnya “breaks out,” then the Russian authorities will not have enough strength to suppress such an outburst of disobedience, because the Russian Federation has thrown all its troops into the war against Ukraine.
“The Kremlin does not have the physical strength, roughly speaking, to take some kind of Russian Guard and send them to “pacify the peoples.” If something breaks out somewhere, some small town or small village, they can still surround and do something there, taken separately a counter-terrorist operation, as they say. If one republic rises, especially one like Chechnya, then they will not be able to do anything, because they have thrown all their forces into Ukraine,” Yagun emphasized.
