Social media platform X has revealed its efforts to combat the presence of terrorist organizations and violent extremist groups on its platform. Following the attack on Israel by Hamas, X has swiftly initiated measures to remove or mark thousands of pieces of content violating the platform's rules regarding violent expressions, media manipulation, and graphic materials. Moreover, the company has responded to more than 80 "removal requests" from EU authorities concerning false or violent content.
Linda Yakkari, the CEO of X, emphasized the company's commitment to eliminating terrorist accounts in real-time and its dedication to detecting fake and manipulative content during the ongoing crisis. She stated, "X does not tolerate the presence of terrorist organizations or violent extremist groups, and we continue to remove such accounts in real-time. X is actively involved in identifying fake and manipulative content during this rapidly evolving and changing crisis."
Yakkari also mentioned that the platform had formed a top-level group to assess the situation shortly after news of the attack on Israel emerged. The company has repurposed internal teams, working around the clock to address this rapidly developing situation.
Thierry Breton, the EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, called upon Elon Musk to combat the spread of misinformation on the X platform following the attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Israel. Breton expressed concerns about signs indicating that X, formerly known as Twitter, is being used to disseminate illegal content and misinformation within the European Union.
