National Film Critics' Award 'KinoKolo' Announces Winners

Winning Films and Talents:

Best Feature Film - 'La Palisade': The National Film Critics chose "La Palisade," directed by Philip Sotnychenko, as the Best Feature Film of the year. The movie, set in the post-Soviet noir genre, revolves around the investigation of a police officer's murder in the months leading up to the abolition of the death penalty in Ukraine.

'Luxembourg, Luxembourg' Dominates: The film 'Luxembourg, Luxembourg' had a remarkable night, with Antonio Lukich winning awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Amila Nasirova was recognized as the Best Actor for her role in the movie.

Best Actress - Karina Khymchuk: Karina Khymchuk received the Best Actress award for her performance in the movie 'Do You Love Me?' The Kyiv premiere is set for October 17 during the Kyiv Film Critics' Week.

'20 Days in Mariupol' Triumphs: Mstislav Chernov's '20 Days in Mariupol,' a Ukrainian contender for an Oscar in the Best International Film category, was named the Best Documentary Film by Ukrainian film critics. It also won the award for Best Full-Length Debut.

Short Film Excellence: The Best Short Feature Film was awarded to Arkadiy Nepyataluk's 'GKChP,' while Sofia Melnyk's 'Mariupol. One Hundred Nights' received the Best Animation Film prize.

Achievement Awards:


For Outstanding Contributions: Stanislav Bytyutsky, Aliona Penziy, Oleksandr Telyuk, Oleh Olifer, and Olena Honcharuk from the Dovzhenko Center received the Achievement Award for their lecture series, "How to Stop Worrying and Love Ukrainian Cinema."

Special Recognition:
At the ceremony, special recognition was given to film critics who defended Ukraine. Anton Filatov, Yaroslav Pydhora-Hvyazdovsky, Yuriy Samusenko, and Artur Korniyenko were honored for their efforts.

About KinoKolo Awards:

The National Film Critics' Award 'KinoKolo' was established in 2018 to recognize achievements in Ukrainian cinema and the contributions of the film industry professionals over the past year. The ceremony was broadcast for the second time on the 'Suspilne Kultura' TV channel and traditionally coincided with the opening of the Kyiv Film Critics' Week, an international art cinema festival curated by Ukrainian film critics. The seventh edition of the Kyiv Film Critics' Week will run until October 18 at the Zhovten Cinema.
