Meta has responded to user demands on Threads by introducing a feature that enables users to delete their accounts on the app while keeping their Instagram profiles intact. This update comes shortly after Meta introduced another setting change, allowing Threads users to opt-out of promoting their posts on the main feeds of Instagram and Facebook.
Despite these changes, Instagram and Threads remain closely intertwined. To join Threads, an Instagram account is still required, and the only messaging functionality within the app is facilitated through the Instagram direct message inbox.
While it seems unlikely that Meta will completely detach these two social media platforms, there is hope that Threads will eventually gain more independence. Earlier this summer, Mark Zuckerberg's company, Meta Platforms, launched a web version of Threads, further establishing itself as a competitor to Twitter.
