The problems faced by Ukrainian attack helicopter pilots on the battlefield are much more complex than those faced by American pilots, stated former US Marine Corps Super Cobra pilot Kaylynn Hunter, writes Business Insider.

It is noted that Ukrainian attack helicopter pilots fly low and fast, moving across a dangerous battlefield, being under constant threat. Flying in such a situation can limit a pilot's reaction time and affect his situational awareness.

Hunter said pilots have to make real-time decisions about how to maneuver. For pilots flying in these conditions, any wrong move could spell disaster.

As Hunter added, Ukrainian pilots face a “much more complex threat” than American ones.

She also noted that flying low and fast "is likely driven by this threat considerations" as it helps avoid enemy detection and reduces the risk of being shot down.

Hunter also said pilots must consider that threats can come from almost anywhere, whether it's a building or a fortified position. This forces Ukrainian pilots to be hypervigilant.
