The Swedish armed forces are practicing the scenario of a Russian attack in exercises; previously these were fictional countries.

Swedish Army Lieutenant Colonel Joakim Paasikivi spoke about this in an interview with LIGA.net. According to him, before the full-scale war in Ukraine, the military worked out legends using examples of fictional countries with names like “Bogoland.”

“Now in the Swedish armed forces (to some extent in other European countries too) we are already talking directly about the real Russia and its capabilities, and not about a fictitious nation. NATO still uses fictitious names of states during exercises, but geographically they very similar to Russia," he said.

Speaking about the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian front, the lieutenant colonel said that he is not sure that Russian troops will be able to achieve significant success in the near future, despite the pressure.

“Ukraine is successfully waging a strategic and operational fight in Crimea and Russia. This will not help win the war this year. But it is important. Ukraine needs some kind of big technological breakthrough. I think such a breakthrough could be electronic warfare in combination with drones and aircraft. If you can't move from positional to maneuver warfare, then we risk a long war like the one that lasted between 2014 and 2022," he said.

Paasikivi emphasized that the support of Western countries plays a very important role, so partners must understand that refusing this help will only harm themselves.
