Modernizing Kyiv's Public Transport

In a bid to modernize and enhance Kyiv's public transportation system, a significant development has been initiated with the launch of brand-new, domestically manufactured trams by "Tatra-Yug" between the "Lisova" and "Poznyaky" metro stations on route number 8.

Replacing Outdated Models

Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, announced through Telegram that these modern trams are replacing the outdated fleet of 12 trams, predominantly comprised of single-carriage vehicles of older models that used to operate along this route.

Enhanced Capacity and Efficiency

The mayor highlighted the efficiency upgrade by stating, "With a frequency of every 10 minutes, the previous trams transported around 700 passengers per hour." However, the implementation of the "Municipal Public Transport of Ukraine" project, financed through funds from the European Investment Bank, has enabled the city to acquire a new batch of these advanced trams.

Improved Passenger Capacity

The new route will feature seven three-section low-floor trams, operating at 15-minute intervals. The new tram's passenger capacity is nearly 2.5 times more than the previous single-carriage trams, enabling the transportation of over 1,000 passengers per hour.
