How many shells does Ukraine need to reach the 1991 borders: expert assessment

To liberate the occupied territories reaching the 1991 borders, Ukraine will need a number of shells that is comparable to the stocks of NATO member countries and their partners combined. This assessment was given by political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko.
On the FREEDOM TV channel, he emphasized that it is impossible to establish large-scale production of shells directly on the territory of Ukraine. There are two reasons for this, one of which is the lack of technical and technological capabilities to expand such production lines in a short time.
“Those that exist do not provide the required amount of products. And another point is that organizing a large enterprise on the territory of Ukraine that produces a large amount of ammunition is risky. Such an enterprise will immediately become the No. 1 target for missile strikes,” the observer added.
At the same time, it is possible to establish the production of ammunition abroad. However, this solution does not allow expanding production enough to cover the existing need for shells.
“When they say that Europe can provide us with a million ammunition, thank you very much for that, but even a million ammunition is not enough. And I will say more: 2 million ammunition is not enough. If we talk about the possibility of obtaining the necessary amount of ammunition to carry out an offensive with the guaranteed liberation of Ukraine within the borders "In 1991, during the year, for example, to support a counter-offensive operation, we need ammunition for artillery from 15 to 17 million rounds. That is, these are colossal resources that are comparable to the reserves available in the countries of the entire NATO and not only NATO, but also its partners." ,” stated Kovalenko.
