Spain will join the European coalition of countries that was formed to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Options for the state's participation in the overall package of military assistance are now being considered.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez addressed the plenary session of Congress on Tuesday afternoon, El Pais reported. When asked about the supply of German tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the head of government replied that he prefers to see how European countries go "hand in hand" in this aspect. "We are going to remain united and will coordinate our actions with the rest of the allies and, above all, with Europe," Sanchez said.
According to journalists, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Spain is now assessing what contribution the state can make to the program for providing tanks to Ukraine. According to preliminary expectations, many European countries and NATO members will take part in the deliveries.
Some of them will be provided by Leopard from its own reserves, while others will help with financing. Spain is now considering which of the two options to choose.
