Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ekman pledged $3.25 million to buy more than a dozen ambulances for Ukraine.
Ackman's donation will cover the purchase of 15 specially equipped Toyota 4x4 Land Cruiser ambulances and the cost of operating them on the front lines, wrote investor Whitney Tilson, who sits on the advisory board of Ackman's charity, the Pershing Square Foundation, according to Reuters.
"I had breakfast this morning with my college buddy Bill Ekman, walked him through the attached slide presentation I made about my 'Ambulance for Ukraine' mission, and immediately he agreed to donate $3.25 million," Tilson wrote. in an email.
Ekman's hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management manages roughly $16 billion in assets.
Akman's spokesman could not be contacted for comment. Tilson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Tilson has led efforts to procure ambulances for Ukraine, to be operated by the Malta-based MOAS (Offshore Migrant Assistance Station) humanitarian aid team.
The Land Cruiser costs roughly $116,000 each and comes with an extended roof that allows medical staff to get up as they treat patients.
Ekman, whose great-grandfather emigrated to the United States from Ukraine, is worth $3.5 billion, according to Forbes. Ekman and his wife, Neri Oxman, pledged to give away most of their fortune and supported a wide variety of causes.
