Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that ending the war on bad terms for both sides would lead to revanchist sentiments in Ukrainian and Russian societies.
If Ukraine wins, but Russia does not lose, then the conflict will only be on pause, the diplomat said in an interview with Kyiv Independent. Soon Moscow will attack Ukrainian territories again, declaring a "special military operation":
"But if both Russia and Ukraine leave the negotiating room dissatisfied, this will again be an invitation to revanchism for both sides. The potential Ukrainian revanchist policy towards Russia in the medium term should not be underestimated and written off."
According to Kuleba, the next generation of Ukrainian politicians will be fully focused on the post-war reconstruction of the country, but after them, people with revanchist slogans will come to power:
"Regain territories, make Russia pay. When we rise from our knees economically, you will see how these arguments will play out in domestic politics," he added.
