In Germany, support is growing for the idea of transferring long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine as part of military assistance.
According to the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, politicians and diplomats are calling on the German authorities to provide this ammunition. One of the high-ranking politicians of Germany points to the "tactic of deliberate delays" in this matter.
According to the deputy of the Bundestag from the opposition CDU party Roderich Kiesewetter, Berlin must urgently transfer more Leopard 2 tanks, mine-clearing equipment, anti-aircraft systems, ammunition and Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
He added that the Bundeswehr now has 600 Taurus systems. Although 450 of them are out of service, they can be upgraded for export.
Kizevetter emphasizes that there simply isn't enough political will to do so. At the same time, a delay in providing missiles to Ukraine can not only prolong the war, but can also endure a full-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation and other states - Moldova, Poland, Romania and the Baltic states.
Markus Faber, a Liberal party spokesman from the ruling coalition, added that the positive experience with the supply of British cruise missiles to the Armed Forces demonstrates the importance of such assistance.
