Yuriy Buglak, a member of the Central Election Commission, left Ukraine 12 days before the full-scale invasion and has not returned since. He lives with his family in the US state of Florida near Miami and has been receiving a salary all this time.
This is stated in the investigation of the Schemes project (Radio Liberty). As the journalists found out, throughout 2022, Buglak received a salary and other payments - in total, he received one and a half million hryvnias, including material assistance from the state budget "to solve social and domestic issues." At the same time, they note that since the spring of 2023, the CEC member has taken maternity leave with the retention of his position.
The investigation notes that Yury Buglak has been a member of the Central Election Commission (CEC) since 2019, a former chief legal adviser to the Roshen confectionery corporation and a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party.
Buglak, in a commentary to the Schemes project, said that he had "personal circumstances", and in his opinion, he did not violate Ukrainian laws, because he left before the invasion, and with it, the CEC switched to remote work. Journalists recalled that on February 14, two days after Buglak's departure, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on all state representatives to return to Ukraine within 24 hours. According to the CEC member, this did not concern him.
In addition, the journalists found out that Buglak is a member of the Miami Flea Market group in the Telegram messenger. At the same time, his wife is a member of the group "We live in Miami, we speak Russian", where she publishes photographs from the town of Hollywood on the Atlantic coast in the suburbs of Miami.
