The Ukrainian armed forces, during counter-offensive operations in the south of the country, are successfully depleting the enemy army and can achieve operational success before the end of this year.
The next series of Russian defensive positions may be weaker, less heavily mined and less manned than those already breached by the Ukrainian defenders, according to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War.
"However, Russian defenses are not uniform along the entire front in southern Ukraine, and estimates of the strength of the next Russian defensive positions may be an extrapolation based on limited information from small areas of the front," ISW experts added in their report.
In their view, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are achieving tactical successes and successfully exhausting the defending occupation army, and analysts continue to assess that the Ukrainian Armed Forces counteroffensive “could lead to operational successes in 2023, but subsequent series of Russian defensive positions still pose serious problems for Ukrainian forces, and in some areas can be firmly held."
