The 2024 US elections are coming soon, and the world is more supportive of the Democratic candidate, Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris, than of Republican Donald Trump.
The Economist, in collaboration with the consulting and sociological firm Globescan, conducted a survey in 29 countries and in the special administrative region of China, Hong Kong, over the course of two months, among 30 thousand people, and in all countries, on average, 45% of respondents preferred the Democrat, and 33% preferred Trump.
"In Europe, the gap was greater: 55% preferred the Democrats to win, against only 26% who chose Trump. Around the world, the Democrats were ahead among both genders and in all educational and income groups," the article notes.
The journalists added that in a number of countries - Argentina, Egypt, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Vietnam - the Republican outperformed the Democrat in all age groups:
"Possible explanations include sympathy for the rule of a strongman and anger over the Biden administration's (current US President Joe Biden - Ed.) policies in the Middle East."
