Evaluating Defense Forces' Strength
During the panel, Budanov highlighted the pressing issue concerning the size of Ukraine's defense forces. He stressed that the current numbers, around 1.1 million personnel, cannot be sustained solely through recruiting efforts. Mobilization becomes an imperative requirement, surpassing the limitations of any recruitment drives. The enormity of this figure, akin to the challenge with ammunition supplies, poses a significant hurdle.
Motivation as a Key Challenge
An essential aspect raised by Budanov revolves around citizen motivation. He pointed out that while those initially willing have already joined, the predicament arises regarding who can be called upon further. Unfortunately, finding a satisfactory answer to this poses a considerable challenge. Without proper motivation, whether individuals are enlisted forcibly or voluntarily based on legal norms, their efficiency and contribution may dwindle significantly.
Addressing the Motivational Gap
Budanov stressed the urgency of motivating citizens to serve in the defense forces. The lack of motivation could potentially render any additional recruitment almost futile, leading to near-zero productivity among new enlistments. He candidly acknowledged this as a recent trend, urging a proactive approach to tackle this growing concern.
