Explosions at Zaporizhia NPP: Grossi announced direct hits on the reactor defenses

On Sunday, July 7, three direct hits were recorded in the containment shell of one of the reactors at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
This was stated by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, on the X microblog (formerly Twitter). According to him, this happened for the first time since November 2022.
“The IAEA and ISAMZ (the agency’s support and assistance mission in Zaporozhye) have confirmed that there were at least 3 direct hits to the main structure of the Zaporozhye reactor containment vessel. This cannot be,” he wrote.
Grossi noted that no one should receive military or political benefit from attacks on nuclear facilities. “I strongly urge military decision-makers to refrain from any actions that violate the basic principles of protecting nuclear facilities,” added the IAEA Director General.
The IAEA reported that it is aware of one casualty and damage at the 6th power unit. This did not jeopardize nuclear safety, but such incidents can lead to a violation of the integrity of the reactor containment system.
