The introduction of a new law on mobilization in Ukraine has an impact on the lives of Ukrainian citizens, especially those living outside the country. Along with significant changes in the law, questions arise about possible deportations and new military registration requirements for men abroad.

Restrictions for Ukrainians abroad

The mobilization law introduces restrictions for Ukrainian men abroad related to consular services. Without a military registration document, citizens may be denied passports and employment. However, some exceptions apply for certain categories of persons.

The process of joining the military register

Ukrainians living abroad must update their data within 60 days from the date the law comes into force. This includes providing current information to the TCC or providing military documents. The procedure includes the provision of necessary documents through Ukrainian diplomatic institutions or other available channels.

Penalties for evading registration

Failure to comply with the requirements of the law on mobilization may lead to restrictions in obtaining consular services and the imposition of fines of up to 5,100 hryvnia. The Ministry of Justice is considering introducing additional penalties for those who ignore military registration abroad.

Possible mobilization of men abroad

Despite updating the data and introducing new rules, the likelihood of Ukrainians mobilizing abroad remains uncertain. People's Deputy Fyodor Venislavsky argues that military registration does not necessarily mean deportation or return to Ukraine, since the country does not have such powers.
