In China, heavy rains that raged for several days caused widespread flooding. A natural disaster occurred in Guangdong province, writes the BBC.

Chinese state media have already reported that four people were killed and 10 were missing. Several major rivers are known to have overflowed their banks and authorities are closely monitoring "dangerously high" water levels.

The flood occurred in China's most populous province, home to about 127 million people. The provincial capital of Guangzhou, as well as the smaller cities of Shaoguan and Heyuan, were hit the hardest by the disaster.

At least 110,000 people have been evacuated and about 25,800 are in shelters, according to Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Flights have been canceled and delayed at Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport due to persistent downpours. Schools have been closed in at least three cities, and dozens of buildings have been destroyed or damaged. Authorities estimate direct economic losses at nearly 140.6 million yuan ($19.8 million).

China's weather services warned that heavy rain would continue in Guangdong and coastal areas of neighboring Fujian until at least Tuesday. Other parts of the country, including the capital Beijing, are expected to experience "moderate to heavy" rain.
