On October 20, the Russians resumed their offensive in the Avdeevka area and made little progress.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the first Russian offensive operation in the Avdeevka area on October 10 resulted in significant losses of Russian equipment. The Russians regrouped and returned to an intensive offensive. This indicates that either the occupiers believe that they can really take Avdiivka, or that the command poorly prioritizes offensive operations and does not take into account the significant losses of equipment and personnel.
Analysts say Russian troops made little progress yesterday west of Krasnogorovka (5 km north of Avdeevka). But the Russian military officers confirmed that the invaders had captured a Ukrainian stronghold near a waste heap northeast of Avdievka, and advanced to the railway station north of Avdiivka and near the Tsarskaya Okhota restaurant south of Avdiivka.
Another top military correspondent claimed that Russian troops unsuccessfully attacked near Severny (6 km west of Avdeevka), south of Avdeevka, near Stepnoye (8 km northwest of Avdeevka) and near Novokalinovoye (11 km northwest from Avdeevka).
Other military bloggers announced advances of up to one kilometer on the Stepnoe-Berdich line (8-10 km northwest of Avdeevka) on October 19, and fighting continued near Berdich on October 20.
But the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian forces repulsed Russian attacks near Avdiivka, Novokalinovoy, Stepnoy, Pervomaisky (11 km southwest of Avdiivka) and Severny.
On October 20, Ukrainian military operating in the Avdiivka area reported that Ukrainian forces had destroyed 200 Russian armored vehicles over the past four days. The head of the Avdeevka city military administration, Vitaly Barabash, said that Russian troops are trying to repair damaged equipment in the field.
Yesterday, Ukrainian forces showed how they carried out strikes on the Russian thermobaric artillery system TOS-1 near Avdeevka.
A Russian military blogger complained that the effectiveness of Russian counter-battery fire near Avdievka was being reduced by poor communications and the inability to stockpile ammunition before an offensive.
