Gerasimov's riddle: the expert explained why the Russians grabbed onto Avdeevka

The insane losses of Russians in suicidal attacks on Ukrainian fortifications are an attempt to fulfill a political objective that contradicts military logic. This opinion was expressed by the ex-platoon commander of the Aidar battalion, Evgeniy Dikiy, during the telethon.
According to him, with their powerful attacks in the direction of Kupyansk and the encirclement of Avdeevka, the Russians are trying not only to improve their tactical position in certain directions, but also to pull back Ukrainian reserves from the south. They need this so that before the autumn rains begin, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will not be able to break through the Russian defenses and enter the operational space.
According to Dikiy, the Russian command at the operational-tactical level can act rationally, but it is greatly hampered by commands from above, where decisions are made for political reasons, and not according to military logic.
“For example, from a military point of view, they could easily withdraw from Bakhmut and give it to us. It would not be a tragedy for them. But from a propaganda point of view, it’s the same as ‘giving up the sacred Artemovsk,’” he explains.
In this context, a certain “Gerasimov mystery” is the current assault on Avdiivka, which Ukraine has turned into a powerful fortified area over the past 9 years.
“These losses are absolutely disproportionate. The results so far are not only zero, they are minus. Here I will make a prediction: they will not take Avdiivka,” says Diky.
