UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a compelling plea to prevent a further deterioration of the already dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and to secure the delivery of essential supplies, including fuel and other relief items for those in need.
Guterres noted with cautious optimism that humanitarian aid is finally reaching Gaza, albeit as a mere drop in the ocean of the region's needs. He stressed that Gaza's fuel reserves will be depleted in a matter of days, which could lead to another catastrophe.
Without an adequate supply of fuel, essential assistance cannot be delivered, hospitals will lack electricity, and the purification and transportation of drinking water will become unfeasible. Guterres firmly stated, "The people of Gaza require a continuous and unrestricted flow of aid that meets their basic needs."
Last week, Antonio Guterres had called on the parties involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict to immediately cease hostilities and ensure swift, unimpeded humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
