Ukrainian Audio Guide Now Available at Stockholm's Viking Museum

The Viking Museum in Stockholm is now offering an audio guide in the Ukrainian language, thanks to a collaborative effort with the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Sweden. The project, initiated by Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska, is part of a global initiative to promote cultural exchange and help Ukrainians learn more about world history and culture. This is the third museum in Sweden to implement this initiative, joining the Vasa Museum and the Nordiska museet, which showcases Swedish culture and ethnography. This move is a testament to cultural solidarity with Ukraine and its people during these challenging times.
Among the vast collection at the museum, there are artifacts that highlight historical connections between the Vikings and the rulers of Kievan Rus' and certain territories in Western Ukraine. The Scandinavians not only established trade routes in these regions but also fought alongside Rus' princes against common foes. These historical ties are confirmed by runic stones in Sweden bearing the names of warriors who perished on the lands of Rus', a place that was not foreign to the Vikings. They were connected to Rus' through marriage and family relationships.
With this new addition, the Viking Museum has become the 71st museum worldwide to offer Ukrainian audio guides, underlining the significance of this project. The initiative has already been implemented in over 43 countries, with several museums, such as the Archaeological Museum of Cyprus, adopting Ukrainian audio guides as well.
