Bridging Regional Gas Infrastructure "Operator GTS Ukraine" expressed readiness to join the Vertical Corridor Memorandum and collaborative working groups. Ukrainian representatives highlighted the need to expand the capacities of the Bulgarian and Romanian gas transmission systems, emphasizing the critical role of the Bulgarian GTS in facilitating additional gas flow.
Addressing Demand and Reverse Flow An assessment of demand conducted by gas transmission operators from Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova revealed a need for 20 million cubic meters to transport through the Trans-Balkan route to Ukrainian underground gas storage. The Trans-Balkan gas pipeline is already partially operating in reverse; over 0.5 billion cubic meters of gas were transported through this route in 2023.
Partnerships for Energy Security Partners support "Operator GTS Ukraine" in joining the Vertical Corridor Memorandum, believing that cooperation among gas transmission operators, the integration of existing infrastructure, and expansion projects will strengthen the region's energy security.
