Boosting Emergency Infrastructure
In a significant development, Ukraine's Black Sea port received a substantial boost to its emergency infrastructure with the delivery of six diesel generators. This procurement was made possible through a bilateral agreement between Ukraine and Japan for technical cooperation and grant assistance.
The Arrival of Essential Equipment
The Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine's Black Sea branch confirmed the receipt of six Volvo diesel generators, each with a power capacity of 550 kVA, mounted on Iveco vehicles. These generators, part of a project for emergency restoration and reconstruction facilitated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), are poised to support critical infrastructure facilities in the port in case of prolonged power outages.
Meeting Power Needs
With the cumulative power capacity of these generators, the port's administration asserts that they can fully meet the electricity requirements of the Great Odessa Ports' administrative premises. Moreover, considering the mobility of this equipment, it can be redirected to any branch of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine as necessary.
Handover Ceremony and Collaboration
A formal ceremony for the transfer of these mobile power supply units took place on December 5th in Kyiv, witnessing the participation of the permanent representative of JICA's office in Ukraine, Satoshi Sugimoto, and the Deputy Head of the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine, Serhiy Kovshar.
This development follows the resumption of JICA's operations in Kyiv in November after a hiatus resulting from Russia's intrusion into Ukraine in February of the previous year. The collaboration between Ukraine and Japan marks a crucial step in fortifying Ukraine's vital infrastructure, especially in times of unforeseen disruptions.
