President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed a significant development in Ukraine's international relations, announcing Japan's commitment to provide a substantial aid package totaling $4.5 billion. Expressing gratitude for this support, Zelensky highlighted Japan's consistent and principled backing of Ukraine and its people.
Aid Timeline and Support
Japan's assistance to Ukraine has been multi-faceted, starting with military aid in May, marking a historic moment post-World War II. This aid comprised 100 vehicles and 30,000 sets of gear for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, followed by a $500 million contribution to the Ukraine Support Fund. Additionally, Japan's Foreign Minister, Yoshimasa Hayashi, during his visit to Kyiv in early September, announced further humanitarian aid for demining activities in Ukraine.
Acknowledged Support and Ongoing Assistance
Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, emphasized that Ukraine had already received $2.1 billion in macro-financial aid from Japan. This ongoing support underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations, signifying Japan's unwavering solidarity with Ukraine during challenging times.
