A Tribute to Ukrainian History and Love
The Riga Ukrainian National Theater recently unveiled its new play, "Mazepa: The Last Love," capturing the essence of Ukraine's struggle for independence centuries ago. Director and artistic head of the theater, Maria Semenova, emphasized the importance of portraying Mazepa's story, aiming to remind newer generations about Ukraine's longstanding fight for freedom. Explaining the inclusion of love between Motria and the hetman, Semenova highlighted how love reinforces their resolve.

Diversity in Cast and Audience
Notable for its diverse ensemble, the theater boasts Ukrainian diaspora members, Latvian friends of Ukraine, and refugees among its actors. The lead roles of Mazepa and Motria were skillfully portrayed by Sergey Korotkov and Elena Fedorova, respectively. The premiere was attended by Ukrainian war veterans undergoing treatment in Latvia, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the inspiring performance.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia, Anatoliy Kutsevol, underscored the symbolic significance of the play, bridging historical eras of Mazepa's time and the present.
