Sweden has unveiled a substantial aid initiative for Ukraine, amounting to 1.4 billion kronor, equivalent to over $133 million. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister for International Development Cooperation and External Trade Johan Forsell jointly announced this substantial commitment during a press conference.
This comprehensive winter package primarily focuses on supporting crucial systems such as energy supply, heating, food, housing, and healthcare in Ukraine. Out of the total announced amount, 900 million kronor will be directed to the World Bank's Ukraine Reform, Recovery, and Reconstruction Trust Fund (URTF). This fund plays a pivotal role in bolstering Ukraine's infrastructure across energy, housing, healthcare, and transportation sectors.
The Swedish government emphasizes the vital significance of procuring heating equipment and enhancing capacities for the Ukrainian power grid, especially considering the upcoming winter season.
Additionally, a portion of the aid, 300 million kronor, will be allocated to the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P), while 100 million kronor will be channeled through the UN Food Program. UNESCO is set to receive 75 million kronor for constructing shelters in schools and preschools, with an additional 25 million kronor earmarked for the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
Moreover, Sweden, alongside Norway and Finland, has declared contributions of 21.5 million euros to the E5P fund. These contributions are designated to support critical municipal infrastructure and environmental investments in Ukraine, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of multiple nations in aiding Ukraine's development.
