SBU Initiates Investigation
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has launched a criminal inquiry following a cyberattack on the national mobile operator, "Kyivstar." According to reports from the SBU's press service, the investigation encompasses eight articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, including unauthorized interference with information systems, creation and distribution of harmful software, and allegations related to Ukraine's territorial integrity and state security.
Suspected Russian Involvement
One of the considered angles in this cyber incident is the potential involvement of Russian intelligence services, as highlighted by the SBU's press service.

Following the attack, an operational-investigative group from the SBU swiftly arrived at the offices of "Kyivstar" to document the circumstances surrounding the attack. Cybersecurity experts from the SBU are also on-site, collaborating with the company's personnel and coordinating efforts across state institutions to expedite network restoration.

On the morning of December 12, users reported a widespread disruption in the operations of "Kyivstar," affecting mobile connectivity, internet services, and access to the mobile application. The company confirmed that the network became the target of a substantial hacker attack but assured that subscribers' personal data remained uncompromised. Specialists from the operator are actively addressing the aftermath of the cyber assault.
