Estonia has completed construction of a fence on the border with the Russian Federation. The length of the structure on the southern border of Estonia is 40 kilometers.
“Our goal is a high-tech, modern border infrastructure,” the Estonian Interior Minister told Politico.
According to him, the EU's eastern border, which runs along the Estonian border, should be equipped with the most modern equipment, security systems and drone surveillance. The project should be completed in 2025.
It is noted that Estonia wants to strengthen the security of its border amid growing concerns about unfriendly actions by Russia towards other EU countries. In particular, the publication recalled how Russia created an artificial migration crisis on the border with Finland.
“We don’t have increased pressure. But of course we are ready if this happens. Covering almost 340 kilometers of the border is not an easy task, regardless of whether we are talking about fencing infrastructure on the mainland or surveillance systems on the water,” Läanemets added.
