BBC Ukraine Announces Winners of Book of the Year-2023

BBC Ukraine recently unveiled the triumphant works of the "Book of the Year BBC 2023." Among the notable winners, Eugenia Kuznetsova's novel "The Ladder," published by "Old Lion Publishing House," claimed the coveted title of Book of the Year.

In the category of "Children's Book of the Year," victory was clinched by Ivan Malkovych's "Anna Yaroslavna: Kyivan Princess - Queen of France," released by "A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-Ha."

Rostyslav Semkiv's "Adventures in Ukrainian Literature," published by "Tempora," secured the win in the "Essay" category.

The award ceremony took place at the Readeat bookstore-café in Kyiv, marking the first live event since the start of the extensive conflict.

Notably, the literary award "Book of the Year BBC" is conducted in partnership with the Cultural Program of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The judging panel for the "Book of the Year BBC-2023" included Kyiv-Mohyla Academy professor Vira Ageyeva, EBRD's cultural advisor Svitlana Pyrkalo, blogger Vitaliy Chepynoha, Kansas University professor Vitaliy Chernetskyi, and BBC Ukraine's chief editor Marta Shokalo.

Each winner in every category receives a monetary prize equivalent to £1,000 in Ukrainian hryvnia.

Moreover, publishers of the winning books in the three categories gain the right to use the Book of the Year BBC award logo in their subsequent editions.
