Russia is trying to reach the Ukrainian-Polish border; the borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions are not so interesting to it. This was stated by the former company commander of the Aidar battalion, Evgeniy Dikiy.

In his opinion, the enemy probably does not really claim in Ukraine only to capture the Transcarpathian region. “Russia does not need the border of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. It strives for the Ukrainian-Polish border. Of all our territories, perhaps the only one that is not claimed is the Transcarpathian region,” the military man told Tizhnyu.

There are certain reasons to believe that Putin promised to give these lands to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Dikiy emphasized. He recalled that on the second day of the full-scale invasion (February 25, 2022), the Hungarian army stood on the border of Ukraine in combat readiness. Hungary then justified its actions by saying that in this way it was preparing to accept refugees, the analyst says, recalling:

“You don’t have to be a great strategist to know that pontoon bridges are not built for a humanitarian operation.”

He claims that for now any compromises with the Russian Federation on “peace” are impossible. Using the example of 4 temporarily occupied regions, it is clear that Russia is simply taking Ukraine for itself, forcibly annexing its territories, the military man mentioned.

In this context, the words of one of the founders of the state of Israel, Golda Meir, are relevant for Ukraine.

“We want to live, but our enemies want us to die. This leaves little room for compromise,” Dikiy quotes the politician.
