Dudaryk Choir Raises Over 80,000 Hryvnias for Ukrainian Border Troops

The Garrison Church of St. Peter and Paul in Lviv hosted a concert featuring traditional carols and folk songs from various regions of Ukraine by the renowned Dudaryk choir. Led by conductor Dmytro Katsal, the event showcased 24 musical pieces, ranging from ancient hymns to works by contemporary composers like Hanna Havrylets.
The repertoire, a treasure trove of Ukrainian cultural heritage, included well-known compositions like Leontovych's "Shchedryk," which resonates globally. Besides preserving traditions and fulfilling an educational mission for children, the concert had a charitable purpose. Katsal proudly announced the collection of 79,620 hryvnias, 30 euros, and 10 pounds, earmarked for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to Katsal, the funds will be utilized to acquire specialized protection against drones and defensive ammunition for two border brigades operating in the Luhansk region. Dudaryk Choir's recent return from a tour in Denmark, organized by the Ukrainian House in Copenhagen, was also highlighted. The tour, comprising three concerts, aimed to draw attention to the issues faced by Ukrainians.
Katsal emphasized the dual nature of their visit, combining a socio-political agenda with a charitable mission. During their stay in Copenhagen, a vote regarding the recognition of the Holodomor as genocide took place, and thanks to the active lobbying by the Ukrainian House, the decision was positively supported.
Founded in 1971 during the Soviet occupation, Dudaryk has become a symbol of Ukrainian musical excellence. The choir made history by performing under the Ukrainian flag in the United States on the eve of the declaration of Ukraine's state sovereignty. Dudaryk's mission revolves around enriching and popularizing Ukrainian musical heritage globally while preserving the rich traditions of choral music in Ukraine.
