Belarus has added a clause on the use of tactical nuclear weapons to its new military doctrine. According to American analysts from the Institute for the Study of War, this was done to reflect Russia's deployment of this type of weapons in the country in 2023.
According to the ISW report, this is the first time that the draft of the new military doctrine of Belarus provides for the use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons.
Experts say the specifics of how the new doctrine applies to tactical nuclear weapons are unclear. Analysts have found no signs that Russia or Belarus are seeking nuclear escalation and continue to believe that use of nuclear weapons by Russia or Belarus remains unlikely.
