President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky proposes to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to introduce the institution of multiple citizenship.

The head of state said this in his congratulations on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Day of Unity of Ukraine.

“Today I am introducing a key bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that will allow the adoption of comprehensive changes to legislation and the introduction of the institution of multiple citizenship,” Zelensky emphasized.

As the president noted, this “will allow all ethnic Ukrainians and their descendants from different countries of the world to have our citizenship.” He clarified that except for citizens of the aggressor country.

“Everyone who, during periods of various waves of emigration, was forced to leave their native land, ending up in Europe, the USA, Canada, Asian countries, Latin America. Everyone who helps us despite hundreds and thousands of kilometers from their native land,” Zelensky noted.

In addition, he remembered the foreign volunteers who stood up to defend Ukraine. "Everyone who fights for the freedom of Ukraine, as for their native Motherland. And Ukraine will become like that for them. For everyone who can feel that being in Ukraine means being at home. Not tourists, but citizens. Great, Cathedral, united Ukraine. For the freedom of which we are fighting. We are fighting for the right to be Ukrainians. And the corresponding decision is one of the elements of such freedom, one of the possibilities for realizing such a right. The right to be Ukrainian," the head of state said.
