In the Avdeevka area of the Donetsk region, the Russians continue to press with intense infantry assaults and daily drop UABs during air attacks. This was stated by the head of the public relations service of the 47th separate mechanized brigade "Magura" Dmitry Lazutkin.
“The line of contact now in the area where our brigade is holding the defense practically does not change. If there is any fluctuation, so to speak, “breathing” of this line, then it is hundreds of meters - they advance, we fight back. Thus, the battles continue every day and every night,” Lazutkin emphasized on the air of a national telethon.
He added that Ukrainian defenders have to hold the line in difficult conditions, which are also complicated by unstable winter weather.
“It’s extremely difficult for our infantry now. Because, again, temperature fluctuations, then minus 5-6 degrees below zero, then again a thaw of plus 5-6 degrees. This can change during the day. The weather is not the best for combat operations, given "that enemy artillery is working, and FPV drones are hunting day and night. But at the same time, we are monitoring the movement of enemy equipment and infantry, and the enemy is being destroyed and continues to suffer huge losses. That is, the defense continues and it is still effective," he emphasized Lazutkin.
A soldier of the 47th Mechanized Infantry Brigade said that Russian occupation forces continue to conduct active assaults near Avdievka. However, now the invaders are attacking in a “ragged” rhythm.
“The intensity of the attacks remains quite high. But we can say that the enemy attacks in such a “ragged” rhythm. They don’t always come with a large number of equipment and large units, sometimes they are small groups. With such groups they try to find some weak spots in our defense. However, Our aerial reconnaissance works quite effectively, so the advance of the enemy is almost always something that our commanders see and react accordingly. But there are conditions when there is generally thick fog and you can only see a few meters. The Russians are also trying to take advantage of this and we need to be aware of this ready," Lazutkin said.
He added that the Russians near Avdeevka are trying to carry out infantry assaults more often in order to protect their equipment from destruction.
“Situationally, this reduces their losses. That is, if a convoy of ten vehicles or more enters, as practice shows, these convoys are dismantled by our FPV drones and artillery, our Bradley infantry fighting vehicles come out and also work effectively,” the fighter explained.
Lazutkin noted that now the invaders are mainly attacking Ukrainian defense positions with infantry units, which consist of former prisoners. However, sometimes the occupiers involve special forces in assaults.
“Several brigades are facing us. They attack, if infantry groups enter, often “Storm-Z”, “Storm-V”, where former prisoners go on the attack, the Russian commanders do not feel sorry for them. Groups of special forces also enter, who are well equipped, our reconnaissance detects them. Now the situation is consistently difficult, it has remained this way for several months already. We understand that their task is to capture Avdiivka, cut off our logistics, so we must stand and not let them do this,” the warrior emphasized.
He noted that for Ukrainian defenders who defend the country in the hottest spots of the front, the most difficult factor is the state of constant internal tension.
“What I can say from personal conversations is that there is a certain moral fatigue. Because all this is tiring, when you are in such an internal state, in fact you feel like a target. At the same time, there is an understanding of what we are fighting for, there is support from our fellow brothers , faith in commanders is what holds and helps. It’s clear that many expect that mobilization will take place in Ukraine, new motivated fighters will appear and will also help. Because people need both rest and rotation. One way or another there should be some kind of cycle,” stated Lazutkin.
