The United States carried out airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and associated groups, Air Force Central Command said.

In recent hours, 85 terrorist targets in Syria and Iraq have been bombed by the US Air Force. Command centers, warehouses, logistics centers, and production facilities of the militants were under attack.

A siren was heard in Baghdad. Local media report attempts to strike the American embassy (which was evacuated earlier). Strikes are being carried out on American bases in Iraq and Syria.

Biden said he ordered strikes against sites in Iraq and Syria that Iran is using to attack U.S. troops.

"Our response began today. It will continue at any time and place of our choosing," he said.

National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said the United States does not seek conflict with Iran and does not want to expand the conflict in the Middle East.

"But we will not hesitate to protect people and hold those responsible for harming Americans accountable, and we will do so when and where we see fit. The attacks began today, but they will not end tonight," he added.

According to him, the Washington administration believes that the US strikes on Iraqi and Syrian territory were successful. There were no casualties among US military aircraft carrying out strikes in Syria and Iraq. The US notified Iraqi authorities in advance of plans to carry out strikes. They did not contact Iran in advance about the strikes in Iraq and Syria. The United States will take additional action to ensure an end to attacks on its forces in the Middle East region.

The United States does not plan to launch strikes on Iranian territory, CNN reports, citing sources. ABC News reported that this was a response to a drone strike on an American base in Jordan.
