Ukraine has proposed to the American aerospace private enterprise SpaceX an algorithm that could stop the use of Starlink terminals by Russian troops.

Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov spoke about this in an interview with Public. According to him, the Ministry is now communicating with SpaceX on this issue. The company could turn off its terminals in the occupied territories, but it is important for Ukraine that they work there. “There is another way to make our Starlinks work, but the rest do not,” the minister added.

Answering the question whether there is a connection between the appearance of these terminals by the occupiers and Elon Musk’s statements about the war in Ukraine, Fedorov said that he does not believe in this. “It was logical that the Russians would start purchasing them through third countries. They had Starlinks, but now there are a little more of them. Some of their entrepreneurs, probably, began to monetize it,” he said.

The minister also assures that he is not afraid that these terminals will one day stop operating. “For individual missions, such as at sea, we use other communication systems - special military satellite communications, backup communications of third and fourth companies. But Starlinks remain the basic infrastructure along the front line and I think everything will be fine with them in the future,” - Fedorov added.
