Ukrainian pilots perform miracles on the battlefield every day. Flying Soviet-style aircraft, they make daily sorties, destroying enemy forces and equipment. Now Ukraine has more aircraft than in February 2022. The commander of the 7th tactical aviation brigade, Yevgeny Bulatsik, spoke about this in an interview with the Voice of America.
He praised engineers for being able to quickly repair damaged aircraft, meaning minor damage did not result in high resource costs. In addition, Ukraine's allies in Central and Eastern Europe sent several of their aircraft, which are early Soviet models.
“At the moment we have much more of them than we had at the time of the full-scale invasion. ... All crews are ready to carry out tasks day and night, in simple and difficult weather conditions,” Bulacik said.
According to him, Russia is much larger than Ukraine, and they have a lot of mobilization resources and people they don’t feel sorry for. At the same time, the aircraft manufacturing industry is much better developed than in Ukraine, and they had the opportunity to modernize the existing fleet of their Soviet aircraft.
“Thanks to the sanctions, the pace of production of their new aircraft has slowed down, so they have focused more on modernizing the old fleet,” the military man emphasized.
