The controversial US presidential candidate Donald Trump avoided a direct answer to the question of whether he will continue to help Ukraine with weapons and whether he will allow Putin to occupy part or all of Ukraine if he is elected president again.

Trump said in an interview with Fox News that he hopes it doesn't come to that. By the time he assumes the powers of the President, a long time will have passed, more than nine months - for war and politics this is “an eternity”.

The politician noted that the Russian Federation has a powerful army, although Ukrainians are very brave. He is convinced that a compromise must be sought through negotiations.

Trump also said that the issue of the war in Ukraine is very painful for him. He is confident that the invasion would not have happened if he had been president.

"I knew Putin very well, we had a good relationship. He would never have decided on a large-scale invasion if I had been president. If we had a real leader, he (Putin) would never have done this. Remember, he did this for years, and there was no real threat that he would do it. I talked to Putin, I said: “You can’t do this.” If I were president, all these people would live, all these beautiful cities, ancient thousand-year-old domes, golden domes, culture cannot be replaced. It's a terrible situation," Trump said.
