Since the beginning of this year, there have been 15 drone attacks on 13 oil refineries in 9 Russian regions.

According to The Insider, 8 objects received significant damage as a result of the strikes. The total capacity of the attacked plants is approximately 178 million tons per year. However, those that were damaged have a combined capacity of 83 million tons per year.

“If we take into account only significantly damaged primary oil refining installations, then the air strike campaign has so far affected only 46 million tons of refining capacity per year, which corresponds to 14% of the total refinery capacity and 17% of the oil processed in 2023,” the publication adds.

According to oil industry sources, the next targets could be facilities in Ryazan and Samara. The Ryazan Oil Refining Company, which belongs to Rosneft, is the third oil refinery in the country and the largest in the Central Federal District. Over the course of a year, it alone is capable of covering the needs of the Russian Army and producing 3.6 million tons of gasoline, 4.5 million tons of diesel fuel and 1.2 million tons of jet fuel.

At the same time, Kuibyshevsky (7 million tons), Novokuibyshevsky (8.3 million tons) and Syzran (8.5 million tons) oil refineries of the same Rosneft are located near Samara.
