Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called the collection of Slovaks to help Ukraine “a fart on a tree” that will not change the situation.
According to Noviny Plus, at first he refused to comment on this issue, but eventually spoke out. "People have the right to think that bullets and bombs are more important than perhaps people in Slovakia with cancer. So let them send weapons, but I have nothing to say to them. If we said today: 'Let's do a fundraiser for cancer treatment,' we probably wouldn’t have collected that much,” he said in an interview with JOJ24.
At the same time, Fico assured that Slovakia is helping Ukraine - he recalled the gas reversal approved in 2014, as well as the repair of the border crossing. “Let every citizen of the Slovak Republic do what he wants with his money, it’s his decision. You know what the Czechs say? Že prd do Stromovky (That’s a fart in a tree). Sorry for the expression, it’s only symbolic,” he added.
The Prime Minister assures that the approved assistance to Ukraine from the United States of America and the European Union will not change anything in the war with the Russian Federation.
“In a year or two it will be the same - all the money will be spent, some of it may be stolen, but nothing will change in Ukraine, and we will be where we are now. This is my attitude. Therefore, I will still perform for a peaceful settlement, for a ceasefire at any cost," Fico said.
